xoxo+throwup=valentines day :)

So there is this famous holiday coming up.  It's all about public displays of affection.  It's almost a contest between guys.  Like who can get their girlfriend the best gift.  You have people asking, "Will you be my Valentine?" and getting their sweetheart chocolate and balloons and roses!!  To make it ten times worse there is all those stupid commercials on TV about it.  Like "He went to Jared" or "Every kiss begins with k"  Then when you walk into stores and see heart shaped candies all over.  It's a waste of money and what about the people who are no longer in a relationship? Can you say depressing?  PDA makes me sick to begin with, but on Valentines Day you are with out a doubt going to see this.  EW!  I know a couple who broke up on V-Day! That's harsh.  Then there are people who break up right before and others who don't recieve gifts.  Either way, half the world will end up unhappy on that day.  Either because they are not in a relationship, their heart is broken, or they see everyone else happy.  Guys send their chicks flowers.  Well, flowers die.  According to Amanda Elsbury, that means your love will die someday too.  Alex Meyer says "I hate to see other people happier than me because it makes me angry."  There are many people in this world who are in relationships that do not celebrate this day (Dykstra is one of them).  Dykstra said people shouldn't celebrate Feb. 14.  This is one of the few things I agree with him on.
On Valentines Day in elementary school, life was great.  We got candy from everyone in the class and had a party! I only cared about the candy we got at school and relationships did not matter to me.  Just as long as I got my candy, I was a happy camper.  Also, my parents would always get me some kind of cute container with chocolate in it.  Now, we get no candy at school and my parents don't get me any chocolate.  Basically, I've grown out of Valentines Day.  It is such a pointless holiday.

  1. Not necissarily! If you have a significant other or you are in elementary school, it doesn't suck. Now on the other hand if you are single..it is very depressing. I'm kinda surprised you feel this way Mariah! ;)
P.S. i miss our talks in business class!

  2. Mariah! I agree, I don't really care for Valentines day. My parents don't do anything special for it. The plus, they do buy Mark, Sam, and Me candy. Only good thing about Valentines day. Also we don't celebrate Mother's Day or Father's Day because there just as pointless as Valentine's day!

  3. I agree with you 100%, after all you used my quote in your blog post!! I enjoy getting candy on Valentine’s Day. I remember in Elementary school, we’d all pass around Valentines with candy and such. That was fun, kind of. Just another Candy holiday.

  4. Mariah I most definatly agree with you! Valentines Day is the most pointless holiday if you have significant other or not. Buying flowers and candy is just a waste of money and doesn't show to much love. If you buy a girl flowers they will just die so what does that say about your relationship? Do you want your relationship to die??

  5. Ahhhh Okay, Mariah thank you for using my quote in this I truly appreciate it! Anyway since I was reading this and talking to you about this the whole time you were typing it.. I couldn't agree more. I don't see the point in this holiday...it's just a labeled day to make up for all the mistakes you have done in the past..(Example: Sorry I forgot your birthday and that I make you do my laundry every day but hey I love you so thanks.) Its just like a peice of chocolate coated over a disgusting nut. I used to like this day in Elementary like Nichole said but not anymore. Sending someone chocolates leads to depression because they get mad that there fat. Flowers welt away and die just like love. Teddy bears and cards those are nice until your dog chews it up or the card gets thrown away. Let's face it...everything ends, just like love, so why remind yourself and your partner?
    Happy lame V-day people!
